Chapter Twenty-two: aster_talk
[[Chapter title: ] [So we went through with the plan. I went to Reggie’s office ahead of time and set up one of the burner phones in the office, on a live video call over Wi-Fi onto the computer in one of the underground rooms, also recording it onto one of the USB drives] [There were a whole bunch of religious and philosophical books lying around] Bible, Tao Te Ching and Vedas. Gödel, Wittigenstein and Marx. [they were marked up with 5 different colors of highlighters] [The expensive office chair kicked into a corner and a cheaper, softer but semi-broken from reclining too hard, chair, sitting in front of the laptop] [Mindful of the time, I placed the phone among some books on a shelf, pointed so that it would have a good view of whatever Reggie was doing off-camera; checked the angle by sitting in his chair myself and looking at the feed on a separate phone; loggged in to his laptop using the password we’d gotten from the other version of him, and joined a video call with us] [Returned to Kayla with plenty of time to spare, but still sweating because of the rigidness of the deadlines] [They watch “Reggie” walk into his office and then when he sits down to the computer, Marvin, trying to be evenhanded: "Reggie we want to talk to you, [K, interrupting: “I’ve killed you once, and I will kill you again if you try anything”] [“So you’re time travellers” said Aster, their face lighting up] “And if you’ve killed me before, you must know that you can change your own past! I take it my experiment was a success?” Approximate readability: 28.41 (1274 characters, 295 words, 5 sentences, 4.32 characters per word, 59.00 words per sentence)
